First Post!

Okay, I certainly could have done better as a first post, but we had to start somewhere, right? Something that struck me this morning was a bit by my favorite radio DJ who was justifiably pissed at a NY station that ran a bit lampooning the tsunami and its victims (floating Chinks..selling orphaned kids into slavery). Definitely sick, and I'm right there with him on that. However, his point was that this bit ran on a hip hop station and he thought the DJ felt s/he had a racist "free pass" since it's a "black" station, and apparently the piece was sanctioned by the "black" listeners. I had to fire up the PC first thing in the a.m. to remind him that a) the bit was sick and shouldn't have run at all - the station's fault; b) don't assume that all listeners of hip hop stations are black (as "Heather from Carnegie" walks away with the Usher tickets..); and c) that all of HIS listeners aren't white! We all laugh at some inappropriate humor from time to time, but sharing it with the masses isn't always appropriate. It's equally stupid as it is racist. If you get a minute, check tshirthell.com and look at some truly tasteless humor (Autistic Kids Rock...Kill Black Babies Before They Commit Crimes...I'm Rick James' Ghost, Bitch!)

Everyone joining hands and singing Kumbaya ain't gonna happen, but I really wish we all wouldn't spend so much time and energy skewering each other. Life does a pretty good job of that without extra help.
